DALLAS, October 17, 2019 ― GridLiance, an independent electric transmission utility, recently named energy industry veteran Kathy Patton to the role of vice president, associate general counsel of regulatory. Patton will oversee GridLiance regulatory attorneys and take the lead role in California Independent System Operator Corp. and Midcontinent Independent System Operator matters.

Patton joins GridLiance from the Calpine Corporation where she served as senior director of trading compliance. At Calpine, Patton was responsible for developing and managing the generation company’s trading compliance program to ensure compliance with federal, trading markets rules and regulations. Before that, she served as vice president and general counsel for Clean Line Energy Partners, LLC where she was lead counsel for development and regulatory approval of its transmission projects. Patton joined Clean Line after serving as deputy general counsel for Allegheny Energy, Inc. There she shepherded the development and regulatory approval of a $1 billion 500-kV transmission line in PJM Interconnection, a regional transmission organization (RTO). Patton gained additional experience working with RTOs as senior vice president and general counsel for Illinois Power Company.

Patton earned a Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of St. Thomas where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. She is licensed to practice as an attorney in Washington, DC and Texas and is also a certified public accountant in Texas. Patton serves as vice president of the Houston Chapter of the Energy Bar Association.
